Mondays

KARMA YOGA

Mondays: 8:00 - 9:00 am

Free / By Donation

Karma yoga is the practice of selfless action performed for the benefit of others, without attachment to the outcome. It can be applied to everything you do, from the most trivial tasks to more challenging efforts. Karma yoga is a path to reach spiritual liberation through our actions, purifying the mind and bringing fulfillment and freedom.

In that spirit, we offer this free yoga class to our community - and to the extent you are able, we will accept donations to benefit various non-profit organizations that are doing good in the world. Each month, 100% of your donations will be contributed to that month’s featured non-profit. This is a Level 1-3 Iyengar yoga class, in the same style as our other Iyengar yoga classes. Beginners are welcome!

Mondays: 9:30 - 11:00 am

This class is great for students who are just beginning and want to gradually open their yoga bodies; mature yogis; pre-natal yogis; those healing from illness or injury; or anyone wanting a gentler, more supported yoga experience. We use chairs, walls and floor to support our postures. Taking the poses one at a time with lots of breath, everyone works at the level that works for their body. Gentle yoga is supportive, allowing time in the posture to use our breath and consciousness to build stamina, energy flow and wellness in our body, mind and spirit.

GENTLE YOGA

SOUND HEALING & MEDITATION

Mondays: 1:00 - 2:15 pm

Everything in nature – from the smallest molecule, to the universe itself – is in a state of vibration. Sound itself is a vibration, and sound healing connects you directly to that universal life force, restoring you to a place of balance and harmony.

The class begins with a meditation – sitting, walking and/or guided – that will prepare your body to receive the sound healing. Then, lying on a yoga mat or blanket, you’ll experience a soothing guided meditation, the sounds from the Tibetan and quartz crystal singing bowls, and the frequencies from the attunement. The meditations and healing sounds combine to help clear, balance and harmonize your body, mind and soul, bringing you a sense of tranquility and calmness.

GENTLE YOGA with RESTORATIVE

Mondays: 3:00 - 4:15 pm

This gentle, slow-paced yoga class will invite you to relax mind and body, with accessible stretches and poses to create more space in the muscles while quieting the mind. We will enjoy extended holds in supportive restorative yoga postures while guided with music and meditation. Suitable for all levels of experience, stamina and flexibility.

YOGA STRETCH

Mondays: 5:30 - 6:45 pm

Yoga Stretch is a class designed for individuals wishing to strengthen the back, relax neck & shoulders, tone the extremities (hands, arms, legs & feet), bring flexibility to joints and build abdominal/core stability. Through a series of slow stretches and poses based on proper body alignment, and using  props for support and comfort, we will move through all areas of the body to gently find opening & make space in the body by lengthening muscles and gently stretching joints through movement. By-products of this practice include improved breath awareness, encouraging stress reduction and enhancing the ability to relax.

We practice being “present” in our bodies and working within their given limits to stretch and strengthen the body while balancing our energies. This yoga practice is open to all level of practitioners; no previous yoga experience is required. This practice is regenerative in nature, not contortionism.

Tuesdays

LEVEL 1-3 IYENGAR YOGA

Tuesdays: 9:30 - 11:00 am

Iyengar yoga is a form of Hatha yoga that emphasizes precision and physical alignment of the body. By paying close attention to anatomical details and the alignment of each asana (posture), Iyengar yoga creates balance in the body and mind. Postures are held for a relatively long period; this allows muscles to relax and lengthen, and encourages awareness in the pose. Through attention to proper alignment, Iyengar Yoga encourages weak parts to strengthen and stiff areas to release, thus awakening and realigning the whole body.

Iyengar Yoga often makes use of props (such as chairs, belts, blocks, and blankets) as aids in performing asanas, allowing students to practice with greater ease and stability. Props help support the student to work in a range of motion that is safe and effective, minimizing the risk of injury or strain. They also make postures accessible for students regardless of physical condition, age, or experience. In addition to developing strength, balance and flexibility, Iyengar yoga develops emotional strength and a sense of well-being that helps students handle the challenges of life.

GENTLE YOGA

Tuesdays: 3:00 - 4:30 pm

We use chairs, walls and floor to support our postures. Taking the poses one at a time with lots of breath, everyone works at the level that works for their body. ALIGN & FLOW YOGA

Tuesdays: 5:30 - 6:45 pm

This class combines gentle vinyasa flow with awareness of proper alignment in poses.

We’ll begin with some breathwork, to establish presence and focus on the moment. Starting from the ground to root down and feel safe, we’ll then move into standing poses to align our feet and spine. Warrior poses will allow us to find balance in space, and to further our balance, variations on tree pose will keep us present to our proprioception, where we hold ourselves in the space around us. Here we’ll explore that yoga does not always have to be so serious, and we’ll play with our balance in postures that may require one foot (and find gratefulness that we have two!).  Then we’ll move back down to the ground to go deeper through forward folds, bends and hip openers for gaining flexibility. This practice is wonderful for tight hamstrings and quads, and to correct spinal alignment and achieve optimal posture.

Class ends with a restorative pose, perhaps a mudra (hand gesture) to alleviate any stress in the body, an enlightening poem, meditation or chant, a setting of intentions for ourselves, and our final resting savasana.

KUNDALINI YOGA
(as taught by Yogi Bhajan)

Tuesdays: 7:15 - 8:30 pm

Kundalini Yoga is an uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices. Using sound, breath, and movement, Kundalini Yoga aims to develop spiritual awareness by freeing the spiral power (Kundalini) that is coiled in the base of the spine, and drawing it upward through the seven energy centers (chakras). Practitioners use breathing techniques, physical postures, chanting and meditation to unlock this Kundalini energy.

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient art and science, as well as a practical technology to enable the transformation and expansion of consciousness. As the "yoga of awareness," the philosophical purpose of Kundalini is to awaken your higher Self, and achieve your total creative potential.

"Kundalini Yoga consists of active and passive asana-based kriyas, pranayama, and meditations which target the whole-body system (nervous system, glands, mental faculties, chakras) to develop awareness, consciousness and spiritual strength." — Yogi Bhajan
